I Wish it Was Summer (A Photoshoot)

Snow. Ice. It’s melting, you guys.

As an Alaskan, this is a very big deal. There is heat to the sun, and actual patches of grass and cement with NO snow or ice on it!

*screams excitedly*

In honor of pre-breakup (the season between winter and breakup – breakup being the season between winter and spring in which snow melts, everything turns to mud, and the air constantly smells like dog pee), I decided to post some pictures of Molly I took back in September.

Enjoy!

So I realized I’ve filled up 99.7% of my WordPress storage – any suggestions as to what I should do about that, guys?

Have a great Spring Break, if that’s next week for you like it is for me! (ONE MORE QUARTER, GUYS. ONE MORE QUARTER.)

Thoughts on Blaire

*Opens category dropdown* *Goes to click 2018* *Sadly realizes it’s no longer 2018* *Creates new category for 2019*

HAPPY NEW YEAR GUYS!!! *throws confetti* 🎉 🎉 🎉 🎉 🎉 🎉

A new year means new surprises, new friends, new exciting experiences, and, for all of us doll lovers, A new GOTY!

I did see several leaks/spoilers this year, so I did hear about Blaire long before her release (thanks Faye), but that’s okay.

I did a “Thoughts on Luciana” post last year, so I’m excited to do another one about Blaire.

And . . . here are my thoughts on Blaire’s collection!

GBL30_Blaire_Doll_and_Book_1

*Squeals* She’s adorable! Her hair is AY-MAY-ZING with all of those red curls. It’s my favorite thing about her. I don’t think we’ve had a redheaded GOTY since Nikki, back in . . . . . 2006?!?! So it’s been thirteen years. Holy cow.

(Maybe AG should add a pet cow to Blaire’s collection? Thoughts?)

Her eyes are such a pretty shade of green, but I don’t get the downward slant. Luciana’s eyes did that too, so maybe it’s a continuing thing with AG?

I’m not super in love with her meet outfit. The dress is a good length, but to me it looks sort of nightgown-y. I love the bow and ruching, though. The bandana thing is nice, as are the sandals.

(I’m getting Strawberry Shortcake vibes from her book cover, though . . . )

GBL35_Blaires_Accessories_1

Her tote bag is so cute! The tablet looks cheaply made, though. The clipboard is really nice, and I like all of the lavender accents (though I am allergic, sadly, and I think of sneezing when I look at them). The stickers are cool too.

GBL31_Blaires_Bridesmaid_Dress_18inch_Dolls_1-1

Blaire’s bridesmaid dress is a beautiful shade of blue. At first glance I didn’t like all of the beading (it looked sort of old-fashioned to me), but after further inspection I think it’s nice. I LOVE the uneven hemline on dresses so I think it’s a beautiful piece. The shoes are nice, the headband is adorable, but I’m not sold on the choker. Why would you wear a choker as part of your bridesmaid outfit?

GBL33_Blaires_Gardening_Outfit_18inch_Dolls_1

I looooooove this gardening outfit. The top is exactly something a girl Blaire’s age would wear, and the overalls go perfectly with it. The boots are great and really compliment the outfit. Again, not sure on the bow thing. It looks really cute but I’m trying to imagine a real girl wearing something like that around her neck and I’m not really getting it.

GBL32_Blaires_Floral_Flair_Outfit_18inch_Dolls_1-1

The Floral Flair outfit is okay. I don’t love the dress (it’s pretty but reminds me of something you’d see in Nanea’s collection). I love the purple leggings, though, and the sandals are really cute. So is the headband (which seems to be Blaire’s thing).Image for from American Girl

GBL34_Blaires_In_Bloom_PJs_18inch_Dolls_1-1

Her PJ’s are my absolutely favorite thing about her collection, and I’m definitely wanting to get them for Tessa. I absolutely love the colors and those pom poms!

GBL37_Blaires_Garden_Accessories_1

I don’t love the fabric on the apron in her gardening outfit, and I’m not sure why she has unmatching gloves (in real life they obviously wouldn’t match but for AG you would think they would). What I don’t understand is why the glove fabric matches her PJ pants??? That makes no sense to me. I really like the hat though, and the bow is very stylish.

GBL39_Blaires_Piglet_1-1

Her piglet . . . oh my goodness . . . so cute!!!

GBL38_Blaires_Lamb_1

The lamb is cute too, but I still like the piglet more.

GBL41_Blaires_Party_Decor_1-1

The party d̩cor is really pretty. I love those paper flowers Рthey would look great in a dollhouse. The accessories are really cute too, and I love the color scheme. Not sure how structurally sound the arbor is, though . . . but overall really nice set. Pricey though ($85).

GBL36_Blaires_Garden_1

THAT’S A CHICKEN??? I had to look at the product details to figure it out. It looked like a mini alpaca or something to me, but apparently it’s a Silkie, which is a beautiful breed of chicken. The garden is cute but quite small. The chicken eggs are a nice touch, as is the pretty watering can.

GBL40_Blaires_Family_Farm_Restaurant_1

The family farm is a cool set but an ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS $300. People will pay it though, soo . . .

I love the pastels in Blaire’s collection. The lilac shows up again here. My favorite part are the pretty lights above! There are a lot of cool features in this set, but not worth $300 to me.

And that’s all for Blaire’s collection! Overall, AG did a great job on it. My favorite thing is the pretty pastel color scheme, with the light blues and lilacs. What do you guys like the most?

I hope you guys had a great start to the new year, and I will see you in my next post!

2018 Wrapup

Has anyone every noticed that “wrapup” is such a weird word?

Oh wait. There’s supposed to be a dash between “wrap” and “up.”

That makes a lot more sense now.

Hey guys, and welcome back to my blog! I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas! Big thanks to everyone who watched my Christmas AGSM as well – if you haven’t watched it, be sure to do that right now!

I did a 2017 wrapup at the end of last year, and it was really fun so I decided to do it again.

And . . . let’s go!

In January, we were introduced to our awesome GOTY, Luciana Vega (who I even wound up purchasing!)

FMR54_Luciana_Doll_and_Book_1

The other big thing that happened in January was the release of one of my series, Travels With Grace. Grace actually went to Washington State with me for Thanksgiving of 2017, but I didn’t release any of the pictures until January 2018.

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

She visited her cousins Grace, Lea, and Cara, while I visited my cousins S and M.

In February, I did a hilarious How Much Does AGs in Alaska’s Brother Know About AG? post, which had some great results.

I also posted on The Customization of Tessa Elizabeth, where I showed you all how I created my customized TrulyMe doll.

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

I also launched another series, “According to Crystal,” with my “Valentines Day According to Crystal” post.

DSC_0750

In March, I did my first guest post with my rabbit Moe, who was more popular on blog than I thought was ever possible.

Seriously. You guys went gaga for my little rabbit.

Moe is the best! Carrots, Mmmmm! – Faith

Magosh he’s ADORABLE such a bun wow. Ahem. I WUV HIM. – Tess (blackiesunshine)

Moe is so adorable!!!!! – Sapphire

AWWWW! Moe, I have lots of carrots, come hang out with meeee!!!! – Natalie Therese

Aw, Moe!!! You’re so cute!! – Liz

And for good reason, too – he’s adorable!!!

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

I also did my first collab with my friend Elysium, from Prompted Pens!

I celebrated two huge milestones in March – first, reaching 1000 likes on American Girls in Alaska, and second, my three-year blogiversary on WordPress (I started blogging long before my AG blog, for those of you who don’t know).

In April, we celebrated Easter . . .

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

And then went to Texas!

I brought back Travels With Grace for that one.

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

In May, we celebrated Crystal’s 15th birthday!

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Then, I celebrated my one-year blogiversary with a tee-shirt giveaway!

Our winners were Dianne and Faith.

June was fairly boring. I went on a hiatus, so that was pretty much it.

Pencils

In July, I did a Patriotic Photography collab with Chachel from Wild Sketch, which was super-duper fun!

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

In July, I announced the arrival of our adorable Chihuahua puppies, Jaxon and Callie, who my family had adopted a month earlier.

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

You guys, of course, loved them. 🙂

I also did Take 2 of “A Summer Photoshoot,” which I did the year before as well. This time around, I used Lindsey instead of Crystal, but we went to the same park.

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Those two photoshoots are still my favorite (and you can bet you’ll see Take 3 sometime this summer! Which doll should I use this time?)

In August, I welcomed a new doll into the family – Luciana Isadora Vega!

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

And then came her debut photoshoot.

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Crystal made another appearance on “According to Crystal,” this time with a back-to-school version!

DSC_0718

I was super lazy in September (I’m kidding, school started so I was a little busy), and I only did two posts – introducing Tessa’s rabbit Mischief into the family, and then a photostory about him.

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Then came October, when I did an adorable fall photoshoot, “Pumpkin Pals,” with Molly and Luci.

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

And we had a family meeting, with interesting results.

In November, I promised you guys that I would have an awesome surprise for Christmas! (And I hope I came through on that one!) 🙂

I also shared some of my best non-doll-related pictures.

On Novemeber 30th, Alaska was shaken by a huge 7.0-magnitude earthquake that struck southcentral Alaska, 10 miles north of Anchorage.

That’s when I wrote my post “Please Be Praying.”

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

We’ve had 6,000 recorded aftershocks since then, the last really big one on Dec. 27th (which was a 4.9 at 5:30 in the morning, waking my entire family up as our house shook back and forth for about five seconds!)

I started December off with a ballet photoshoot of Tessa in my backyard.

Crystal returned once again with “Christmas Shopping According to Crystal.”

DSC_0096

And then . . . dun dun dun . . . I revealed my HUGE CHRISTMAS SURPRISE!!!

It was a holiday American Girl Stopmotion, which I posted on my brand-new YouTube channel!

Click here to watch it! https://youtube.com/watch?v=VJHUWoYy314&t=47s

And that just about wraps up the year!

But wait – lastly, some stats! (As of December 27th, when I wrote this post.)

Sorry about the caps lock. I’m really, really excited.

Anyway, I hope you guys have an AMAZING Christmas and a very, very happy new year!

P.S. – I made the channel specifically for my stopmotion video, so don’t expect many more videos to follow. I may make some, I may not. 🙂 My blog is, and will continue to be, my main focus. 🙂

Christmas Shopping According to Crystal (With The Unwelcome Input of Grace)

Disclaimer: This post is written satirically and Crystal’s advice should most definitely NOT be taken – that is, when it comes to Christmas shopping.

Crystal: Why hello, people of the universe! It is I, Crystal, here to grace your presence-

Grace: Did you say Grace and presents?

Crystal: No, Grace! Now, go away! I’m doing a blog post here!

Grace: *sighs* Fine.

Crystal: Now, where was I? Oh yes, today I’m here to give you a few tips on Christmas shopping. As we all know, the holidays are all about shopping – I mean, what else would they be about? If you’re not planning on spending all your money on yourself at Bath and Body Works-

Grace: *cough* Crystal *cough cough*

Crystal: GRACE!

Grace: Sorry!

Crystal: *sighs* As I was saying, if you’re not going to spend all of your money on yourself, Christmas shopping for others is such a fun thing to do. And when you have eight sisters, they all want presents, for some weird reason.

DSC_0093

For your best and most favorite sister – that would be Tessa, in my case – some nice jewelry or a fancy scarf should do the trick. If you have any doubts, follow this helpful tip:

Tip #1: When in doubt, buy the most expensive pair on the rack.

Expensive clothes always impress girls, whether you’re a guy shopping for you girlfriend or a girl shopping for her sister. Expensive=meaningful!

Grace: That would explain your Tiffany addiction.

Crystal: ARGH, GRACE! GET OUT OF HERE – RIGHT NOW!

Anyway, let’s move on.

When you’re shopping for your least favorite sister – that would be Lindsey, due to some unfortunate shoe-burning – don’t be afraid to give her ketchup packets or pencil stubs.

Tip #2: When in doubt, wrap anything you find lying around your room.

Next up – shopping for your parents/person who writes blog posts about you. Put some thought into this gift – after all, this is the person who spends hours photographing you, writing up cute posts, and then gaining a ton of followers because she did a nice job on your hair – oh yeah, and because AG bloggers are super nice people.

DSC_0096

Tip #3: It’s totally okay to copy present ideas! The original person won’t mind, usually.

And, last but not least, shopping for that special someone.

Basically, there’s only one piece of advice I can give you –

Tip #4: Boys are impossible to shop for. Just go to your nearest Safeway and grab any old hoodie off the rack. Since boys don’t care about clothes, it doesn’t matter what it looks like. Hey, it’s the thought that counts, right?

And that’s all the time we have for today! I hope this post was helpful and inspiring. May you all have long lives and wear fashionable clothes!

By the way, don’t you just loveeeeee my hair? AGsinAlaska did it, with the assistance of some sparkly twinkle lights! #ThisIsHowISparkle

Grace: Is there no end to your vanity, Crystal?

Crystal: GRACEEEEE!!!!!!!!

The Wintry Ballet (A Tessa Photoshoot)

Ah, finally! AGsinAlaska is posting wintry pictures!

Well, not exactly wintry . . . considering that it’s currently 34 degrees outside, everything has melted, and our backyard smells like dog pee (you know what I mean if you live anywhere that has a mud season). Just one problem – IT’S NOT SPRING.

According to my whiteboard calender, it’s only December 3rd. Plenty of time for Christmas posts, I guess?

I also realized while taking these pictures that the Trials of Tessa never came to any sort of conclusion – well, in case you didn’t know, Tessa’s a ballerina. 🙂

Don’t worry, my next post will definitely have something to do with Christmas, I promise.  And I can’t wait till Christmas Day (when I reveal my Big Surprise!)

Also, I just wanted to thank you all for your heartwarming support after I wrote my earthquake post. You guys were so sweet and kind, and I really appreciate it. I mentioned in my post that schools would be closed until Wednesday, but that has now been extended to December 10th. The damage is quite severe, but your prayers and kind thoughts are what keep us up here in Alaska going strong! So thank you. 🙂

Peace out.

Did I just say peace out? *Cringes*

On Being Thankful (Poems and Pictures)

Hey, guys! I hope you’re all having a fantastic Thanksgiving. Honestly, I feel like I was just doing this – as each year passes, the time flies faster. If you’re not in too much of a food coma, I hope that you’ll take a few minutes to read this post. The poems are not mine, and I’m not quite sure who wrote them exactly, but I thought they would be appropriate for today.

I’m accompanying the poems with pictures I took of things other than dolls. Quick warning, though – they’re completely unedited (except where I blurred out the info on Jax and Callie’s collars). 🙂 So if you dare to look, go ahead . . .

“Can we open presents now?” Lindsey begs.

“Why not?” Crystal replies. “It is Christmas, after all.”

“I think this one is for you, Lindsey,” Molly says, handing Lindsey a bright red bag.

Lindsey unwraps the present.

“Now, here’s your present, Em,” Morgan says, handing Emily a Santa Claus bag.

“Oh, a music book!”

“Oh, for me?” Crystal asks. “Thank you.”

“Eek! A fairy costume! Hold on, let me go put it on!” Crystal shrieks.

She returns a few minutes later wearing the glitzy costume.

“McKenna, this one is yours,” Lindsey says.

McKenna opens the box excitedly. “A FITBIT!!!!”

“It fits perfectly!” McKenna exclaims. “You guys are da best!”

“Here, Molly,” Grace says, holding up an owl bag. “I think this one is yours.”

DSC_0577

Molly pulls out the tissue paper, practically smothering herself.

DSC_0578

“SAT Secrets! It’s just what I wanted!” Molly exclaims. “Thank you so much!”

DSC_0579

Lindsey snorts ungracefully.

DSC_0580

Emily elbows her. “Lindsey.”

All of a sudden, the doorbell rings.

DSC_0581

“Hey, who’s going to get that?” McKenna asks. “We’re all in our pajamas.”

DSC_0582

“I’ll get it,” Crystal answers. “I’m the only one not in my PJs.”

DSC_0583

“Um, Crystal, maybe you shouldn’t-”

DSC_0586

Crystal ingores her and jets up the stairs in her fairy costume.

DSC_0587

“AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!”

DSC_0588

“Oh, my apologies,” Crystal says, sliding her fairy mask on top of her head.

DSC_0589

“Is this the American Girls in Alaska family?” the girl asks in a Southern accent.

DSC_0590

Crystal nods. “Yes, it is. I’m Crystal.”

DSC_0591

“Hey, who’s this?” Grace asks, bounding up the stairs.

DSC_0592

“I have no idea,” Crystal replies.

DSC_0594

“I’m Tessa,” the girl says in a Southern accent.

DSC_0595

“Hey, I’m Grace,” Grace introduces herself.

DSC_0597

Molly suddenly appears out of nowhere. “Hello. I’m Molly. Sorry we’re all in our pajamas.”

DSC_0598

“It’s fine,” Tessa says. “It’s nice to meet you.”

DSC_0599

“Hey, who’re you?” Lindsey asks rudely.

DSC_0600

“Lindsey, be nice,” Morgan chides, appearing behind Lindsey. “Hi, I’m Morgan, and this is Lindsey.”

DSC_0601

“Are you our new sister?” McKenna asks. “Hi, I’m McKenna.”

DSC_0603

“And this is Emily,” Morgan says, prodding Emily forward.

DSC_0605

“Why don’t you come downstairs?” Crystal asks Tessa.

DSC_0594

“Alright,” Tessa agrees.

DSC_0584

Back downstairs, Morgan says, “We’re so sorry, Tessa. We don’t have a present for you.”

DSC_0585

“Yes, you do,” Tessa tells her. “You’re my new family. And that’s the best thing I could ask for.”

WELCOME TESSA!

Twelve Days of Christmas, Day #11: Christmas is . . . Caroling

Okay, everybody! This is it! The last TDOC post before Day #12 – Christmas!!!!! Can you believe it’s just one day away???

ONE. DAY.

I can’t believe it, either. In the meantime, here’s a very, very short photostory!

There’s a knock on the door. I rush over to answer it.

DSC_0534

It’s carolers! (Sorry this picture is so dark.)

DSC_0536

“Hi,” I squeak nervously. I’ve never been very good around people.

(Also, now you can see how amazing Em’s hair looks!)

DSC_0537

“Deck the halls with boughs of holly. Fa la la la la, la la la la!” they sing merrily.

DSC_0538

“Troll the ancient yuletide carol, fa la la la la, la la la la.”

DSC_0541
